The quick answer is that it depends, of course!  It depends on what information you want, what you want the data logging to tell you.  You may need 1 logger or 12 loggers, or even more.  If you are having a moisture problem in the room, and want to try and locate the source and any micro-climates created by it, you need a number of loggers.  If you want to show staff or trustees the effect of stratification of the environment at various locations and heights in the room, you need a number of loggers.  If the room is divided into smaller rooms, you need a number of loggers.  If you have cases, particularly large ones, that create micro-climates, you need a number of loggers.  If you have a single room with no known problems in which you want to have a general idea of the environmental conditions, one logger in a central location at the height from the floor that reflects an average for the collections in the room will be fine.  Just remember that T and RH conditions will be different closer to walls, lower or higher, and in any areas of heat, including sunlight.  This is true for ALL rooms, not just yours.  And for general preventive preservation of collections, you don't need really expensive data loggers.  Hobo U10 loggers will do just fine.

Good luck!
