The Gaston County Museum of Art & History is located near Gastonia, North Carolina on the square in historic Dallas.  The museum is housed in an 1852 brick Greek Revival style hotel that has been adapted for visitors and travelers of today.  The museum contains North Carolina’s largest collection of horse-drawn vehicles consisting of sleighs, drays, wagons, and buggies.  The Gaston County Museum represents one of only a few cultural institutions in the town of Dallas

To promote the understanding of heritage and history, the museum’s mission is to collect and preserve artifacts which illuminate regional history, and to interpret them to current and future generations through exhibits, publications, and educational programs; to encourage appreciation of visual art through the collection and exhibition of fine examples of artistic endeavor; and to promote and encourage historic preservation and renovation.

The Gaston County Museum is currently seeking a fall intern to work in the Education Department.  This person will work closely with the Programs Coordinator to learn program methods and strategies.  The intern will be responsible for development, implementation, and evaluation of museum programs & outreach programs.  The intern will also work on other projects at the museum and in the community as assigned.

The internship is unpaid, but housing that is within walking distance to the museum is provided.  The internship will start late August-early September, and end late November, and be 30 to 40 hours per week during that time.  Deadline for application is June 30, 2007
