Free summer distance learning workshop on preserving family and community treasures start June 14

first workshop
Staff and volunteers of museums, historical organizations, and libraries
Three of the workshops will be presented by conservators from the
State Historical Society's
June 14 Preserving Your Collections:
Textiles, Leather, Feather, Hide,
Bone, and other Organic Materials
July 12 Preserving Your Collections:
Metal, Glass, Ceramic, Stone, and other Inorganic Materials
August 16 Preserving Your Collections:
Paper, Photographs, Books and other Paper-based Objects
September 11 A fourth workshop organized by the Nebraska Library
Commission with presenters from University of Nebraska-Lincoln will
focus on care of
materials destined to be digitized for the commission's Nebraska
Memories
website.
Each workshop is scheduled to run from 10-3, CDT. Workshops will
originate from the distance learning facility at NET,
distance learning locations around the state. Most of the receivers for
this satellite uplink are in community colleges, public schools, and
county extension offices. This will be a one-way video link, but
conservators will
be able to accept phoned-in questions from workshop participants. The
workshops
will also be offered as streaming video on the NET web site; web
participants are also welcome to call in.
