I've yet to go, but Huell Howser and his Cal Gold series did a fabulous preview of Griffith Park.  I recommend seeing it, but the video may also be of great benefit.  I recorded it last year on my DVR (TVO) and it's one of the few I won't delete because I want to use it to augment my site visit with the grandkids.  They saw it and were thrilled.  We were just waiting for the crowds to dissipate somewhat.
