Is the book mentioned below about writing a collections management policy or a collecting plan? I'm trying to find a good book on writing a collecting plan. -Michelle Michelle Gallagher Roberts Chief Registrar Museum of Fine Arts 107 West Palace Avenue Santa Fe, NM 87501 505-476-5066 phone 505-476-5076 fax [log in to unmask] ----Original Message Follows---- From: Alexandra <[log in to unmask]> Reply-To: Museum discussion list <[log in to unmask]> To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: Collections Management Policy Date: Thu, 22 Mar 2007 10:59:31 -0400 This is a neat little book from AAM, too: The AAM Guide to Collections Planning, James B. Gardner and Elizabeth E. Merritt. Pub. AAM 2004. While working on accreditation issues, I had a good long talk with the staff at AAM on this topic. It is much more straight-forward to update the policy part than the planning part [at least for the collections with which I'm working] because there are standardized, accepted practices, procedures and policies. Ask AAM if they can give you samples of vetted policies, which you can adapt to the particulars of your organization. Alexandra W. The comments were very helpful. I have another problem that I am hoping this wonderful community can help me with. We have decided to update our Collections Management Policy and was wondering if you all could post or send me your museums CMP? Ours has not been updated in a while so looking at a recent one would be great. Thank you all. Jarod Atkins, Curatorial Assistant Edmond Historical Society 431 S.
