College invites
applications for the position of Coordinator of the Yager Museum of Art and
Culture to work collaboratively with the academic community to integrate our
diverse collection with the College’s curriculum. The Museum holds
16,000 Native American archeological and ethnographic objects from the Upper Susquehanna
Valley, the Southwest, Central and South America; and a substantial collection of fine arts
with particular strengths in 19th and 20th century
American paintings.
The Coordinator will have the opportunity to implement
the new mission and recommendations of a recent advisory committee report that
calls for a “…teaching museum uniquely positioned to advance the
aims of Hartwick College’s liberal arts
mission.” We are looking for an energetic and creative professional who
is willing and capable of working with faculty “…to establish a
deep intercultural, contextual, and aesthetic understanding of the origins,
histories, and character of the artifacts for which Hartwick College acts as
steward and preservationist.”
Preferred Qualifications: Appropriate terminal degree
in museum studies, American studies, anthropology, art history or related field
and five years of museum management or curatorial experience are desired. A
combination of collections management and exhibit preparation experience is
highly desired. Successful experience in community outreach, fund raising, higher
education, and grant writing are important.

of approximately 15,000 situated one hour from Albany
in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains of central New York State.
