I was wondering if anyone on the list may know about what I have heard referred to as a 'traveler's room'. This would be a room attached to the rear of the house, but only accessible through an outside door. I have heard it said that a stranger needing shelter for a night would be locked in until dawn so they would not have the opportunity to pilfer anything while the hosts were asleep. (I have seen this in southern architecture, but I am not sure if this style is found in the rest of the country.)

Does anyone have information?

Thanks in advance,

Denise
