The Nevada State Museum and Historical Society is the only nationally
accredited museum in southern Nevada.  Groundbreaking took place on
November 30, 2006, for a new state funded, (68,061 square foot) facility
which is part of the Las Vegas Springs Preserve project.  A July 2008,
opening is anticipated.

 

The museum is the primary repository for the written and photographic
history of Las Vegas, and the main source of Nevada research materials
for government, media, researchers, families and others.  The
collections support the Biodiversity Initiative, the Nevada Natural
Heritage Program, and both state and local park systems.
