The Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation (GVSHP) is seeking an experienced archivist to help facilitate the transition of the Greenwich Village Preservation Archive and Oral History Project from a publicly available collection to an in-house resource. The position will involve working closely with the GVSHP Archive Committee, Board, and staff. The project will entail working with a collection that includes papers, ephemera, clippings, and oral histories. The Archive Consultant's duties will include: . Drafting a new collections policy . Drafting and executing a deaccession plan, ensuring materials move to an appropriate repository . Ensuring all appropriate paperwork and notification with donors is complete . Establishing proper housing, policies, and aids for the remaining collection Candidates should have advanced knowledge of and proven experience in implementing accession practices and collections policies, including handling, processing and describing collections. Experience creating and implementing deaccession policies is a plus. A graduate degree or certificate in Archival Studies or related academic field and and at least 3 years experience in the field are required. . This is a consultant position lasting approximately 7-8 months, on a part-time basis. The position will require being at the GVSHP office, although some work may be completed off-site. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. Position does not include benefits.
