And, as a museum in Hurricane Rita’s direct path, we, too, could share some lessons about emergency preparedness.

One thing I will say now is – keep in mind that there are only so many emergency generators and disaster recovery firms in the country. If there is another major disaster just before something happens to you, then you should be prepared to think outside the box to problem-solve!

Hurricanes occur during a “SEASON” which means that more than one will hit the US in a year. Be prepared for the eventuality that you may have to share resources with other badly affected areas!

Please feel free to contact me if you have specific questions.

The McFaddin-Ward House features three floors of original furnishings, including a newly restored third floor. Learn how the First World War affected the McFaddin family as we explore "Foxtrots and Foxholes" throughout 2007. Call 409-832-2134 for tour information.

Could we ever!  And we found out some "worst-case scenario" things that most disaster plans don't even begin to cover -- like, what do you do when there are NO communications in the whole area and even the cell phones don't work....

I'll be happy to share some of our recent planning recommendations off list with any of you, particularly those in hurricane-prone areas.
