Swallow Head Registrar Corcoran Gallery of Art 500 Seventeenth Street NW Washington, DC 20006 202/639-1718 Fax: 202/639-1778 P O S I T I O N A N N O U C E M E N T Senior Lighting Specialist Curatorial Department POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Lighting Specialist is responsible for designing, managing and maintaining all exhibit, and general lighting throughout the museum as well as providing assistance with lighting throughout the institution and at other Corcoran facilities. The Senior Lighting Specialist reports to the Exhibitions Director. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Works closely with the Curatorial department to design, order, install, and focus exhibitions and permanent collection lighting as necessary and as directed. 2. Manages and maintains all exhibition, and general lighting throughout the museum and provides assistance with lighting throughout the institution and at other Corcoran facilities. 3. Daily ensures that all museum lighting is in working order, including emergency lighting (testing monthly). 4. Repairs, replaces, cleans, and troubleshoots track and fixtures, as well as all other lighting instruments, keeping same neat and orderly at all times. 5. Performs electrical work as it relates to lighting and other exhibit installations requiring electricity, with some basic power wiring work required. 6. Works with audio/visual personnel to maintain auditorium lighting needs as required. 7. Monitors and maintains equipment related to this position including hydraulic lifts and safety gear. 8. Organizes and maintains inventories of instruments, lamps, etc. 9. Works a flexible schedule to include some nights, weekends, and overtime. 10. Maintains secure records and safe workstations. 11. Follows safe work practices at all times. 12. Conducts oneself in a positive manner with all institutional staff, guests, volunteers, visitors, outside contractors, vendors. Acts as a source of knowledge for proper museum standard lighting practice. Maintains and continually increases level of professional expertise through professional training (workshops/seminars) and contact with others in the field. 13. Performs other tasks as directed by the Exhibitions Director. QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or higher . Demonstrable experience in exhibit lighting, and understanding of the museum environment. . Proven abilities to design and focus lighting according to museum/conservation standards. . Ability to work at heights up to 32ft. . Knowledge of AC power wiring. . Self-starter and detail oriented.
