Subject: Re: Source of (supposed)
Plato quotation?
Many thanks
to all who responded to this inquiry.
After further
research, I am indeed confirming the quotation to be falsely attributed to
Plato . . . a fine example of "urban legend,"
“techno-myth” or (a term
contributed by Stephen Van Buren) “creative
non-fiction.”
As if
it’s possible, I hope to contact all the web sites with this quotation
and suggest they rethink the attribution – or else provide a specific
reference. (I’ll have better
luck trying to bring Plato back from the afterlife. LOL!)
Best wishes,
all,

The aim of art is to represent not
the outward appearance of things,
but their inward significance.
