Conservation Assessment Program

Full-Time Program Assistant

 

 

Heritage Preservation serves as a forum for conservation and preservation activities in the United States.  It provides leadership and coordination to promote and facilitate the conservation and preservation of the nation’s heritage, including works of art, anthropological artifacts, documents, historic objects, architecture, and natural science specimens.

 

The Program Assistant will assist the Coordinator in the administration of the Conservation Assessment Program (CAP).  CAP is supported through a cooperative agreement with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and provides assessments for collections and facilities at institutions with small to mid-sized holdings on a non-competitive, first come first served basis.

 

CAP duties include, but are not limited to, assistance with program inquiries, production and distribution of application materials, screening application eligibility, production and distribution of CAPabilities (a semi-annual program newsletter), following up with and providing assistance to program participants and assessors by phone, email, and mailings, marketing CAP to museums, maintaining program computer databases and paper files. 

 

Salary: High 20s with benefits.  Relocation costs will not be covered. 

 

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in museum studies, art history, history, or a related field. Excellent organizational and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Candidates should have experience with Microsoft Office; knowledge of FileMaker Pro a plus.
