DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMS AND INTERPRETATION
DESCRIPTION
OF FILOLI
CENTER:
Filoli Center, an early-twentieth century
house and 650-acre site with an historic house and 16 acres of formal garden, a
historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, located in
Woodside, CA, open to the public and offering a variety of events and classes
throughout the year. Please go to

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provide leadership in the development and management of
a comprehensive, integrated education program for
Filoli Center. Create, review and renew educational programs that
utilize Filoli’s unique resources and serve its mission. Current successful
program areas are: horticulture, botanical art, floral design, nature,
conservation, history and art.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- One of four senior directors on the
senior management team reporting to the Executive
Director.
- Work closely with the Friends
leadership to provide enrichment, training and support for volunteers who in
turn serve the public through tours and other
activities.
- Provide outreach opportunities and be
accessible to teachers and other community educators to assure Filoli’s
relevance in the community
- Submit budget recommendations for
educational programming
- Serve as the staff representative on
the Education Committee of the Governing Board
- Participate in professional
organizations and seek a leadership role in the historic site and public
garden communities
- Develop key contacts with worldwide
expertise in our program areas
- Oversee a staff of three including a
Curator, Curatorial Assistant and Education Program
Administrator
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong educational background in at
least one of the content areas of programming (i.e. horticulture, historic
preservation, landscape history, nature/conservation, museum studies,
etc.)
- Minimum 5 years work experience in a
public garden, historic site, museum or other educational
non-profit
- Must have excellent interpersonal
skills and enjoy working with people
- Strong verbal and written
communication skills a must
- Graduate degree
preferred
- Creativity valued, a sense of humor
