In my earlier post about the director that was experiencing age-related
mental difficulties, I was not simply brushing them off as incompetent.
This person truly is unable to perform their job, yet is drawing a
salary that is double that of the next highest paid position and three
to four times that of most employees (most of whom are over 35, half
are
in their 50s, and all of them are picking up the slack).

Although I am compassionate of the director's failing health, I am more
compassionate of that organization's staff and the stress they are
subjected to on a daily basis. I'm not saying that this person should
not be associated with the museum in some way, but I certainly don't
think they are entitled to burden the organization in the manner that
they are. I think that their does come a point when people need to
recognize their limitations, no matter what their age. For example, I
don't think a younger person in a demanding, full-time position is
entitled to begin working part-time hours for the same full-time
compensation because they want to take their kids to swimming lessons
and soccer games in the middle of the afternoon every day.
