Does anyone know a good reference book on identifying lace? I have a dress remnant that the donor believes is the wedding dress of an ancestor. To me it looks nothing like the fuzzy photo she has of the bride but there is the possibility it was altered later, so I am trying to match it with the description in the newspaper wedding announcement for a more definitive answer. Unfortunately the newspaper has let me down this time and only gave me one sentence: “The bride was exquisitely attired in a Liere lace robe over chiffon-taffeta, and wore a tulle veil fastened with orange blossoms.”

I can’t find a good description, or even better a photograph, of Liere lace. I emailed the Lace Museum in Sunnyvale, Calif but haven’t gotten a response.

Thanks,
