I have a similar question. We have a kerosene lamp that was donated prior to my hire, that still contains the kerosene oil (which is an orange color~ is this typical). The lamp was never processed by the previous curator, and I am not even sure how long we have had the lamp, or how old the oil is... I need to start processing this object, but I am not sure how to do so safely. Do I rid the lamp of the oil (which is my instinct), and if so, how do I do that properly, while staying environmentally friendly? Any suggestions would be most helpful. Thanks. We recently received a large matchbook collection. Half of the collection is housed flat in an album, with matches removed. The other half were never processed by the original owner (who is now deceased -- a family member gave us the collection) and are in boxes, with matches intact. Should we remove the matches from the matchbooks? Or leave them alone? Thanks! Kim Kenney Kimberly A. Kenney, Curator Wm.
