** PLEASE CIRCULATE WIDELY ** Note the short deadline for application - 21 July The National Museum of Ireland invites applications for the position of Assistant Conservator (Natural History) located in the National Museum of Ireland – Natural History. The function of this post is to provide conservation support to the Natural History Division of the National Museum of Ireland (NMI) in the form of preventative conservation in the two buildings housing the collections and remedial conservation work to specimens. Emphasis for work in this post will be on implementing a strategic approach for preventative and remedial conservation for the Natural History collections in two sites in Dublin (off-site scientific collections facility, and public galleries), and driving existing long-term plans for building improvements. The Assistant Conservator will liaise with other NMI conservation staff (not based in the Natural History division buildings). Access to the Natural History collections is facilitated by the ‘Collections-based Biology in Dublin’ joint programme with University College Dublin. It is anticipated that the Assistant Conservator will work closely with CoBiD and UCD staff in issues of collections care. A fixed-term contract of three years is being offered subject to a probationary period of one year. Essential Requirements A degree or postgraduate qualification in the conservation of historic objects and/or Natural History specimens. Salary The salary scale is €421.37 - €659.31 per week. Starting salary will depend on qualifications and experience and the maximum starting salary will be €556.66 per week (9th point of the scale).
