A great interactive might be a game that would allow kids to predict HOW COWS MOVE AS A GROUP depending on the situation. Cows seems to express a certain form of 'swarming' behavior that is very interesting...storms make them do one thing, feeding time something else...who knows. Might be fun...we always try and guess in the car on the way to Peoria.

ALSO - Excrement! I don't know how you can tackle the subject of farms without tackling POO! Especially with children involved. POO is so critical to understanding what the animals eat and how they function....certainly a POO guessing interactive would be great..>BUT more to the point would be a display of rubber conduits each the actual length of the large intestines of some typical farm animals. A cow has two stomachs and probably what...30 feet of intestine?? How cool would that look!

Subject: Re: [MUSEUM-L] farm themes, programs and exhibits

Please post:

Hi friends and colleagues,

I am looking for examples of outstanding exhibits and programs that involve farm related themes and experiences. Any favorites out there? Anything that struck you as particularly thoughtful and insightful?

Would be particularly interested in ways the farm and farming has been addressed in other types of museums outside of living history farms.

Thanks,
Dave
