When I worked for the San Bernardino County Museum, the County had
what they
called a 9/80 schedule. That is, within a two week period you
would work
eight 9-hour days and one 8-hour day. Under this schedule,
you had a three day
weekend every two weeks. People liked it because
of that and by stretching the
work day, they would miss morning or
evening rush hour traffic or
both--especially critical in southern
California.
Given today's traffic everywhere and the cost of gas, I would
think that
people would like a four-day workweek. I know that most of
my days approach 10
hours anyway. The extra day off will probably keep
them energized, too.
