When I worked for the San Bernardino County Museum, the County had what they
called a 9/80 schedule. That is, within a two week period you would work
eight 9-hour days and one 8-hour day. Under this schedule, you had a three
day
weekend every two weeks. People liked it because of that and by stretching
the
work day, they would miss morning or evening rush hour traffic or
both--especially critical in southern California.

Given today's traffic everywhere and the cost of gas, I would think that
people would like a four-day workweek. I know that most of my days approach
10
hours anyway. The extra day off will probably keep them energized, too.

We are currently debating about whether or not our museum staff should go to
a 10-hour day four-day work week. This would not affect our museum's open
hours. I would appreciate knowing if any of you are doing this and, if so,
what were the reasons to go for a 4-day week.
