The New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum is seeking a director to serve as the chief executive officer with overall responsibility for programs, personnel, budget, and community relations. The director will continue our development, growth, and operation as a division of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs. Opened in 1998, the Museum sits on a 47-acre campus on the outskirts of Las Cruces. We presently have over 600,000 square feet of gallery and exterior exhibition and interpretive areas, including livestock barns, crop fields, and traditional exhibit spaces. Staff continues planning for further development of additional interpretation of farming, ranching, and rural life of New Mexico. The Bruce King Building includes our major collections storage area, a library, gift shop, and restaurant. The search committee desires applicants with at least a bachelor’s degree who can demonstrate at least five years of increasingly responsible museum experience and are knowledgeable of accepted museum standards and practices, including the AAM accreditation process. The Museum will most benefit from candidates who can show strong backgrounds in marketing and fundraising, as well as those individuals knowledgeable about agriculture or history of the Southwest. The search committee will select finalists who have strong management and leadership skills, are at ease in diverse social and cultural settings, and have superior written and verbal communication skills.
