Commisioned Music Exhibition-Sonic Scenery:Music for Collections

Hi Angela,

As per your inquiry regarding a commissioned music exhibition. Indeed, here at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County we have commissioned 10 musicians to create compositions that allow our visitors to see/hear (the name of our new catalog!) our collections in new ways.  This exhibit, with introduction by L.A. Philharmonic conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen is called Sonic Scenery: Music for Collections.  Due to popular demand, the exhibit has actually been extended until August 3rd, so please stop by if you are in Los Angeles!  For information, please visit:  www.sonicscenery.com

The exhibit includes a striking and popular branding logo (see web site), a catalog (also including information about our previous exhibit Conversations in which we collaborated with visual artists), a CD that offers visitors 3 bonus tracks not included in the exhibit, and T-shirts.

Additionally, our evening programming has included live "silent sets" in the designated collection halls by the participating musicians that have proven extremely popular.

Also, we have just opened a preview of Sonic Scenery in the gem and mineral hall of the Naturalis Museum in Leiden, Holland as the Naturalis hopes to work with us in the near future toward creating a full-scale customized version of Sonic Scenery expressly for their collections and utilizing Dutch musicians.

We would also be happy to assist you further with your project.  Please phone me or e-mail.

Kind regards,
Betty
