Job Posting - Registrar, Everson Museum of Art

The Everson Museum of Art seeks a resourceful, motivated, and skilled museum professional to undertake the position of Registrar. The successful candidate will be a vital team member at an institution with a rich and varied permanent collection, and an active calendar of temporary exhibitions. Job duties will include, but not be limited to the following: Oversee the Museum’s registrarial responsibilities in acquiring, preserving, and exhibiting the objects in its collection.  Assist in the development of and implementation of collections policies and procedures. Shall be responsible for the registration, care, handling, records management, and storage of works of art in the collection and on loan. Develop and process forms and relevant documents regarding the care of the collection.  Conduct research and periodic inventories.  Schedule and perform all packing, shipping, and insurance of the collection and temporary exhibitions. Assist in the planning and installation of temporary exhibitions and rotation of the collection in cooperation with other staff members.  Develop and maintain installation schedules and implement with key staff members.  Will be an integral member of the Museum’s re-accreditation team.  Reports to the Senior Curator.
 
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in art history, fine arts, collections management, museum studies or related field.  Minimum 3 years museum registrar experience.  Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in museum collections best practices. Ability to work with a variety of objects and materials.  Knowledge of conservation standards. Ability to identify and catalog variety of media and periods. Ability to multitask.  Excellent writing, verbal, organizational and computer skills. Proficiency in collections database management. Understanding of FileMaker Pro is a plus.  Ability to climb ladders, to bend, stoop, and to lift up to 50 pounds.

The Everson Museum of Art, established in 1897 as the Syracuse Museum of
Fine Arts, is internationally recognized for its extensive and significant collection of American ceramics and American art videos and for its distinctive structural design by the noted architect I.M. Pei. In addition to exhibitions, the Everson presents a monthly Contemporary Film Series, regular Artists Open events and a wide variety of art education programs for adults and children.
