Education Numbers

The National Museum of the United States Air Force, located in Dayton, OH is the oldest and largest military aviation museum in the world.  In 2005 we served 97,721 people in 1330 formal education programs. This does not take into account the "walk-in" visitors, who we have little way of tracking beyond their triggering an electronic visitor counter (we are a free, public museum).  Our total attendance in 2005 was 1.1 million.  Our education programs include workshops, guided tours, self-guided "scavenger hunt" tours, once-a-month Family Day programs, and Home School Day programs (twice a year), as well as various special events, audio-visual loans, or off-site programs.  We have three f/t Education Coordinators who teach, create lesson plans and develop programs, and schedule all 1330 programs.  The Director of Education still teaches a few classes as well.  We also have a core group of about 40 volunteers who serve as tour guides and demonstration station leaders and who provide administrative support.   Hope this information is useful.
