The Abegg villa (of the Abegg-Stiftung fame) in Riggisberg, Switzerland, has been turned into a historic house. The director, Dr. Ackermann, spoke about this transformation at the 2002 DEMHIST (ICOM's International Committee for Historic House Museums) conference in Amsterdam. The Acts have been published, and are available from the committee (reachable via the ICOM web site: http://icom.museum).

Dr. Ackermann mentioned that the visits to the house always are guided, and that all visitors are given a kind of slipper to slip on over their shoes, in order to protect the original floors. You may want to contact them, if the idea interests you, to see how practical, or impractical, this option is year-round.

Best regards,

Star Meyer, Ph.D.
