Train Collectors Association (TCA) seeks candidates for the position of Director of Development.  TCA is a national organization of 32,000 memebers, with its Headquarters, National Toy Train Museum and National Reference Library located in Strasburg, Pennsylvania.

 

Position Summary

The Director of Development will be involved in all aspects of the organization’s development including fundraising and donations to the national museum and library.  Major efforts will be to initiate a Grants program, implementation of both bequests and deferred giving programs, and development of a public relations program to gain maximum exposure, support and recognition of these programs by member, hobby, trade and public audiences.  The position will have the support of headquarters staff and report to the Management Committee of the Board of Directors.  Compensation commensurate with experience; includes benefits.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Work with the Management Committee to develop a long-range fundraising strategy and annual operations funding to ensure funding for operations and capital projects.

 

  1. Develop a Grants Program to assist in funding Museum, Library, Special Projects and other situational needs outside the yearly operating budget.  Activities will include grant research, proposal writing, submission implementation, and donor record keeping.

 

  1. Develop a Bequests and Deferred Giving Program to provide members of their estate a legacy opportunity and a financial/tax benefit to build a lasting foundation for accomplishing the Mission of TCA.

 

  1. Develop a new annual appeal program to current members.

 

  1. Develop a public relations program to support and promote the above programs, maximizing exposure and results.

 

  1. Implement tiered donor recognition programs to express TCA’s gratitude for donor participation at all levels.

 

Qualifications

  1. Bachelors Degree with five to seven years professional experience in the development/fundraising field.

 

  1. A statement of successes in previous efforts.

 

  1. Excellent research and computer skills with experience in contact/donor management, database systems, the Microsoft Office suite of programs and Raiser’s Edge preferred.

 

  1. Self-starter with strong verbal and writing skills with the ability to organize and express thoughts clearly and concisely.

 

  1. Three references.

 

  1. An interest in toy or model trains or railroading is ideal but not required.
