Oy… again, Canada doesn’t get the credit..

 

Though Canada was a British Colony at the time, full of United Empire
Loyalists (who came mainly from the New England area of the US), it was
primarily Canadians that burned the White House. It was not White until
after the building was burned, but was whitewashed to cover the scarring
from the flames. My ancestors, who settled in Upper Canada after having been
in the US, participated in this burning, and in other battles during the
War. 

 

One of my favourite songs about the event is ‘The White House Burned’ by the
