You might want to look at the National Park Service program 
at “Rosie the Riveter, Home front” National Historic Park located 
in Richmond California.  http://www.nps.gov/rori/

The plan (the park is currently under development) is to have a 
National Park staffed interpretive center, to interpret non-park 
owned historic sites nearby related to the home front efforts 
during WWII.  Sites include a portion of the former Kaiser ship 
yard that produced Liberty and Victory ships, one Victory ship 
(Red Oak Victory) a building used to prepare vehicles for 
shipment overseas (site of the interpretive center) along with 
housing developments, a hospital and a child care facility set up 
to support the workers.
