Curator of
Education:
An energetic, experienced educator/administrator is sought by the Florida Air Museum at Sun 'n Fun, in Lakeland,
Florida . The Museum was built in 1992 and is undergoing a dramatic
expansion in terms of facilities,
infrastructure, and programming. The Curator of Education is key to
the future success of the Museum as it fulfills its commitment as the Official
Aviation Museum and Education Center of Florida . The Curator of
Education oversees and implements all
aspects of the education programs, including:
Develops in-house lecture series, youth and adult instructional and hands-on classes, summer and residential camps, and other year-round programs and activities that support the Museum mission of providing first class aviation-based learning opportunities. Provides education programming outreach to the community . Participates in, and supports, education grant applications and reviews. Supervises student involvement in the Museum, Library and Resource Center; collaborates with other organizations to build partnerships of mutual benefit; serves as the museum’s spokesperson with area schools and education institutions . Opportunities to participate in career broadening conferences and training are provided.
Qualifications: Applicants should have a minimum of Bachelors degree in museum education, education administration, or a related field. Experience in aviation highly desired. At least 5 years related managerial experience in museum education, with proven success in the development, planning, and implementation or museum programs; The successful applicant will enthusiastically assist in developing and embracing the vision for the Museum's future growth, and will not be averse to building excellent programs from the ground up.
Competitive salary plus medical benefits. This is a permanent position with a one year probationary period. Position starts as soon as the right candidate has been chosen.
