You know, I wondered about the wisdom of
insulting the NJ folks who had reacted to a previously forwarded email.
Hmmm…don’t you think the email below might be forwarded to them
too? Yikes!
Best advice: Only put in email that which
you would be comfortable having published in the New York Times. I suspect that
adhering to that advice would solve a lot of listserv issues.
On the subject of recurring questions
and the Museum-L listserv in general: I am a fairly new museum director. With
small budgets and no real mentor, the Internet and museum listservs substitute
as ongoing informal professional development. I’ve learned how to deal

of the museum lists – therefore the largest “wisdom base.”
But, I have learned that when I have a question I should ask it on every other

group...just lurking and reading. Just this month I suggested that the
The Museum-L listserv has the resources
to be the very best museum listserv on the Internet. It’s biggest
challenge is the elitist and unfriendly feel it has to new members – and
some old members too.

A few weeks ago, I sent out an email seeking historic groups
and vendors interested in an upcoming event I am chairing. Someone from this
list forwarded it to others and the people who responded were great and I thank
you. But someone decided to cut out some words, add others and forwarded to people
