You know, I wondered about the wisdom of
insulting the NJ folks who had reacted to a previously forwarded email. Hmmm…don’t
you think the email below might be forwarded to them too? Yikes!
Best advice: Only put in email that
which you would be comfortable having published in the New York Times. I
suspect that adhering to that advice would solve a lot of listserv issues.
On the subject of recurring questions
and the Museum-L listserv in general: I am a fairly new museum director. With
small budgets and no real mentor, the Internet and museum listservs
substitute as ongoing informal professional development. I’ve learned how
to deal with bugs of all types, the correct way to format exhibit text, and
acquired an exhaustive reading list. I’ve actually been able to
contribute in a few cases – identifying artifacts, etc. This list has the
largest membership of the museum lists – therefore the largest “wisdom
base.” But, I have learned that when I have a question I should ask it on
every other listserv before I ask it on this one. The rudeness is just not
worth sticking my neck out. I actually thought about unsubscribing from this
listserv last year, but decided to compromise by just not asking any questions
of this group...just lurking and reading. Just this month I suggested that the
The Museum-L listserv has the resources
to be the very best museum listserv on the Internet. It’s
biggest challenge is the elitist and unfriendly feel it has to new members –
and some old members too.

Subject: here is disrespect

you. But someone decided to cut out some words, add others and forwarded to
people in

P.s.I still don’t know how the other was
disrespectful, scratches head with foot
