I found this web site for foam logs by searching for theatre props
"logs" are varying lengths
           Foamwood Half Columns
           (half to the wall)
Custom hights available Sold by the feet
Price for 8" diameter (half) $24.00/ft
Price for 12" diameter (half) $34.00/ft
Price for 15" diameter (half) $45.00/ft
Twas very interesting to find all kinds of stuff available!! - and since it is for theatrical use, it is probably fire safe.

You could also try inserts for fireplaces -- artificial fires -- electric or gas - sometimes in thrift shops or your local dealer might be friendly -- donate and/or give you old inserts when people upgrade.

For a craft project you can make "logs" by very tightly rolling newpaper, soaking it to make it stick to itself and mold it while wet to shape like bark and insert small rolls of paper for twigs Let dry then paint.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] artificial logs

Does anyone have a good source for artificial/fake firewood for historic house museums?  Does anyone know how to make fake fire logs?
