Dear Lucy, It is my understanding that mold spores are like the "seeds" of regular plants. They will not grow unless water is present- in this case high humidity. Also, mold spores are ubiquitous in our environment which explains why it forms on almost everything within 48 hours in very high humidity situations. So, keeping the humidity below 55% will put mold growth "on hold" and our best defense against mold growth is good air circulation and lower humidity.
