Costumed Interpreter
Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia
Hiring Range: ($21,000-22,000)
The
Frontier Culture Museum, a four-farm living history site, and education
agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia, is recruiting a full-time
Costumed Interpreter to: communicate historical information to the
public and schools, demonstrate historic handcrafts and trades (which
might include woodworking, blacksmithing, textiles, coopering etc.),
perform daily farm
and interpretive tasks such as animal care, garden and field work,
general site maintenance, and cooking. Work some weekend days, holidays
and occasional evening shifts to provide seven-day coverage.
Experience
in historic museum interpretation, K-12 education or other direct work
with the public required; also dependable, mature, with positive people
and customer service skills. Ability to demonstrate historical
handcrafts or trades and/or the ability to perform period vocal or
instrumental music a plus. The successful candidate should be able to
work in outdoor and farmsite environments in hot/cold/inclement
weather, be able to lift up to
50 lbs and participate in vigorous farm work on a daily basis. A
bachelor's degree in history, education, anthropology, the arts or
social sciences is preferred; 2+ years related experience may
substitute.
Hiring range is $20,000-22,000 and includes full
Commonwealth of Virginia benefits package; health and life insurance,
