Left Coast Press Inc., a specialty publisher of professional materials for the museum community, announces the addition of two new journals. Journal of Museum Education, published in partnership with the Museum Education Roundtable, is the premiere publication promoting and reporting on theory, training and practice in the museum education field. Each issue focuses on a specific theme of interest to both professional and informal museum educators, administrators, and practitioners. The first issue of the newly redesigned and expanded journal (Vol. 31:1, Spring 2006) concentrates on Museums and Relevance, and is guest edited by well-known museum consultant and author Gail Anderson. The journal editor-in-chief is Monica M. Smith of the Smithsonian’s Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation. Museums & Social Issues, a new entry into the field, will provide an important forum for the consideration of social issues and their engagement with museums. Each issue will include theoretical, philosophical and practical perspectives from inside and outside the museum field, exploring and reflecting upon the intersections between society and museums. The Spring 2006 inaugural issue (vol. 1:1), co-edited with Judy Diamond, University of Nebraska, focuses on the highly topical theme of Presenting Evolution in Museums, with a range of provocative and insightful articles exploring new directions in presenting evolution, visitor attitudes and conceptions, ethics of scientific integrity, approaches to dissent and an engaging look at visual images of evolutionary themes at the turn of the century. The journal is edited by Kris Morrissey of the Michigan State University Museum. Manuscript ideas and submissions should be sent via email to: [log in to unmask] Accessibility and relevance to the growing needs of the museum community are among the key considerations in both publications.
