Apologies for the mass email.  Please spread this link far and wide.
The page is an open letter appealing for professional and financial
assistance on behalf of the Archives Division of the New Orleans
Public Library.

The Library needs tremendous resources to move its irreplaceable
records (unmicrofilmed and dating back to the 18th century) out of its
basement.  Now that 90 percent of its staff have been laid off, and
half of those that remain have lost their homes, this move will
require outside professional and financial assistance.  If we can
generate enough interest and support, it may be possible not only to
rescue these archives from the risk of destruction by future flooding
but have them digitized for preservation and accessibility.
