Museum Program Assistant

Description: 

Works under administrative direction and is responsible for leading and conducting public informational tours,  monitoring and coordinating project/program activities; and providing all front of house functions, (ticket and merchandise sales, restocking, information to guests, etc.) group sales, and membership solicitation.

 

Reports to:   Manager of Operations

 

Duties:

1.       Convey information to the public through speeches, slide presentations, and educational programs offered to adults, children, and teachers.

2.       Conduct established procedures for daily Factory Tours and Museum operations and provide input for necessary procedure updates.  Included but not limited to: guest relations, cash handling, admissions/group sales and retail sales.

3.       Process admissions and retail sales using a computer and point of sale software.

4.       Answer telephones and provide information.

5.       Work with Events and Group Sales staff as needed.

6.       Provides training for new clerks on POS software, opening and closing procedures

7.       Additional related assignments as directed.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

  • Excellent communication skills and customer service skills both in person and on the phone
  • Ability to handle money as required
  • Knowledge of cash registers and computer equipment
  • Work quickly and accurately under pressure
  • Ability to deal successfully with a wide range of people
  • Enjoys working with the public
  • Ability to be a team player
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Demonstrated sales ability

 

Qualifications

 

·         Work flexible hours, days including some evenings, weekends and holidays

·         Able to stand or sit for long periods of time, stoop and reach; and climb stairs

 

Minimum Requirements

 

  • Some college and/or 2-4 years work related experience in Retail or Office duties is required
  • Valid TN Drivers License
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and the use of a calculator

 

 

Museum Education and Docent Coordinator

Description: 

Works under administrative direction and is responsible for leading, conducting, and developing K-12 school and public informational tours, recruiting and supervising docent and volunteer staff, coordinating and monitoring project/program activities, and providing front of house functions (ticketing and merchandise sales, customer service, etc.), group sales, and membership solicitation.

 

Reports to: Manager of Operations

 

Duties:

  1. Assist in the development adult programming
  2. Responsible for developing k-12 curriculum development and distribution
  3. Develops and coordinates all school and organizational tours, working with Events staff as needed
  4. Convey information to the public through speeches, slide presentations, and educational programs offered to adults, children, and teachers.
  5. Assist with the development of a museum docent program including recruitment, training, and supervision of docents.
  6. Conduct established procedures for daily Factory Tours and Museum operations and provide input for necessary procedure updates.  Included but not limited to: guest relations, cash handling, admissions/group sales and retail sales.
  7. Process admissions and retail sales using a computer and point of sale software.
  8. Answer telephones and provide information.
  9. Solve problems/resolve conflicts
  10. Assist in the development and implementation of museum components, exhibits, and special events
  11. Perform related responsibilities as required or assigned

Minimum Qualifications

 

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in education, social science or a related field.  Previous experience in classroom teaching, curriculum development, and/or museum education preferred.   

 

Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these requirements.
