The Smithsonian (AMNH) is leading a project to document the bracero program and is working with museums, historic sites, etc. that have collections and documents related to the program. I saw a presentation about the project this spring at the Smithsonian Affiliates conference. It was a fascinating presentation and I'm sure if you contact the Affiliates office they could put you in touch with someone from the project. We are seeking collections of photos, clothing, tools, papers, housing or anything related to the field workers or growers of the period. The bracero program consisted of a series of bi-lateral agreements between Mexico and the United States between 1942 and 1964, enabling millions of Mexican men to come to the United States to work on short-term labor contracts. It had a significant impact on communities in Mexico and the U.S., on immigration, and bilateral relations, and on labor. If you would like to know more please contact me off line. ========================================================= Important Subscriber Information: The Museum-L FAQ file is located at http://www.finalchapter.com/museum-l-faq/ .
