RETHINK YOUR LIGHTING

The world of lighting design is changing. LED lighting is emerging as a technology unique in the benefits it brings to the table.

Ultra-long life spans – LEDs typically can last up to 100,000 hours of operation when operated continuously, which is longer than 11 years. If operated intermittently, the life span is longer.

Energy savings – To date, researchers have boosted the lumens per watt of white LEDs to six times that of incandescent, which is more efficient than even compact fluorescent. Light of a particular color is created with a drastically greater efficiency because there are no filters to absorb, thereby wasting the light energy. The Department of Energy estimated that LED lighting can cut the nations power usage on lighting by 29% by the year 2025.

No UV (UltraViolet), and no IR (InfraRed) – In the exhibit world, UV and IR light are known culprits in artifact degradation. LEDs produce light in narrow bands of wavelengths of visible light. Typically, UV and IR fall outside those bands.

Durability – LEDs use semiconductor junctions to produce light. There are no fragile filaments or vacuum chambers under glass to deal with. Hence, LED devices are much less breakable, much more rugged, than any incandescent, halogen, or fluorescent counterparts.

Highly controllable – Any color LED can be flashed or strobed at a high rate of speed. Color mixing of LED lights has given rise to previously impossible special color-changing effects.

Per lumen output, the cost of LED lighting devices have been significantly greater than the traditional options, making infiltration into the general marketplace a slow process. However, the increase in initial investment is offset by the energy savings and reduced, or eliminated, need for bulb maintenance. So in the right application, LED lighting makes all the sense in the world.

Avitra has been a pioneer in utilizing LED lighting in exhibitry since 2001. We’ve manufactured our own products to get the highest performance possible from the available technology, and to stay on the cutting edge. An emphasis has been on utilize the highest power LED elements available to yield the most usable LED lighting systems. Listed here are some of the products available from Avitra.

MR16 SPOT LAMP

This lamp gives you control over your light placement, reduces your energy usage, and can be used in most existing MR16 light fixtures. It operates from 6 to 24 volts, AC or DC, so there are no changes needed to your low voltage lighting power supply. There is very little heat generated, no UV, no IR, and has a lamp life rating of 75,000 hours. With no glass to break, no delicate filaments, low voltage, and low operating temperatures, your lighting system becomes extremely durable and safe, compared to systems using halogen bulbs.

Colors available are red, amber, green, blue, and white (5000K). For white lamps, color correction lenses are available for 3800K and 4500K. The lamp is provided with a standard beam angle of 4°, but optional focusing lenses can provide beam angles of 2°, 10°, 16°, 25°, 50°, 80°, 2°x70°, and 10°x60°. It consumes 2 Watts of power. When sizing the number of lamps to operate from one power supply, the total Watts used by the lamps should not exceed the Wattage rating of the power supply.

Note: This lamp is not dimmable and should not be used in circuits with dimmers. Contact Avitra for dimmable lamp options.

MODEL L10 SMALL UTILITY ILLUMINATOR

This device is an LED lamp and fixture in one rugged unit. Designed to be used in embedded applications, it is easily mounted inside enclosed display cases, inside exhibits, behind illuminated panels, etc. It emits no UV, no IR, and has a lifespan rating of 100,000 hours (over 11 years continuous use, longer if used intermittently). With no glass components, or delicate filaments, it is highly durable and will likely last the lifetime of your exhibit.

The L10 emits light in a forward-directed pattern, at an angle of approx. 110°. It is a low-voltage device that is easily wired in the field using secure screw terminal connections. It consumes 1 Watt of power, but emits the amount of light roughly equivalent to a 5 Watt incandescent bulb. Heat generation is significantly less than incandescent bulbs. Power is supplied to it from a model LPS power supply, which can power multiple L10 illuminators.

The L10 is available in cool white (5500K typical), warm white (3300 K typical), and also colors of red, red-orange, amber, green cyan, blue, and royal blue. Energy savings are especially pronounced when using illuminators of a specific color. LEDs create light at specific wavelengths, and are not filtering white light to get a specific color. Hence, there is no light energy wasted through a filter.

MODEL L10T CHANNEL ILLUMINATOR

The L10T is a fully enclosed unit using multiple LED emitters mounted through the length of the aluminum housing. Its high light output capacity and wide dispersion angle (approx. 150°) make it ideal for light flooding in display cases, accents along walls, and general small or mid-size area illumination. No UV, no IR, and low heat generation help protect displayed artifacts from degradation. Unlike fiber optic systems, there is no outboard light generator. The light is created and delivered from the same low-profile unit.

With an LED lifespan rating of 100,000 hours of operation, you need not worry about bulb replacements. The L10T can be treated as a permanently installed, zero-maintenance device. It operates on low voltage, which makes wiring safe and easy.

Manufactured in standard 12” lengths, the L10T can also be made in custom lengths (up to 40 inches long), with fully customized LED color and light output capacity. LED element colors available are cool white (5500K typical), warm white (3300 K typical), red, red-orange, amber, green cyan, blue, and royal blue. Maximum light output per foot length will vary according to LED color, but you can expect cool white to deliver roughly 350 lumens per foot maximum. Lower light outputs are achieved with wider LED element spacing, which lowers manufacturing costs, an advantage over dimming.

LED PLATE ILLUMINATORS

Avitra manufactures LED plate illuminators with design features to operate the LED elements at their optimal performance level. They are built on a custom basis, to your dimensional specification. LED plates can be used for backlighting, light boxes, uplighting or downlighting applications. LED distribution along the plate is tailored to match the light colors and intensity required. With diffuser installed, the LED plates give an even light output across the entire surface. All plates come with integrated high-performance driver electronics, as well as overtemperature protection.
