Anne,
What kind of application are you interested in using the humidifiers for,
ie. exhibit cases, large spaces, small spaces, conservation?
As a conservator I have used ultrasonic humidifers for conservation
treatments, humidification, flatting etc. I have used a few different
brands & they all worked well. The cautions I would give are only use
deionized or distilled water. Water out of the tap with it's minerals will
destroy the ultrasonic element in short order. Also never run one without
water in it, I would only leave one on over night after I gauged how long it
takes for it to use up its supply. With deionized/distilled water you
should have no mold problem as long as you keep it clean plus there is no
mineral "dust" from this water.
If you are interested in exhibit case humidifiers I suggest you look up the
National Park Service Conservation Center at Harpers Ferry on the internet,
they have done a lot of research & construction on such units.
Please feel free to contact me offline if you have further questions.
Sincerely,
Peter Lundskow
Chief Conservator

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Humidifiers

Hello - Any of you have any experience, pro or con, with small portable
humidifiers? Types, brands? Capacity, expense, mold, dust, ease of
refilling, stuff like that?

Many thanks,

Anne
