Senior Collections Management Technician
Full time position (40 hours a week)
Reporting to the Head Registrar, a Senior Collections Management Technician is responsible for the day-to-day monitoring and retrieval of artworks from storage, as well as housing and re-housing of a wide variety of art objects in storage according to appropriate archival and storage standards. Duties include budgeting for associated supplies, equipment and administration of those funds; consolidation and/or reorganizing art storerooms; checks for violations, intrusions, pests, leaks, hazards, object and/or safety disorganization; earthquake mitigation for artworks; and may frame and unframed or mount artworks as needed.
-Handles the relocation of individual objects and/or whole collections.
-Carefully transports artworks from exhibition or work areas to the storerooms.
-Ensures the occasional maintenance of artwork in the galleries or storerooms.
-Performs special projects as assigned.
Experience
-2-4 years in a museum, gallery, art shipping environment handling artworks
-Specialized or technical knowledge in the care and handling of artworks, creative thinking in the creation of and rehousing of artworks in storage
-Familiarity with data base collection computer systems
Other requirements
-Able to take and give supervisory direction easily, communicate with fellow staff, work within a team environment, meet and handle job pressures and deadlines.
-Able to use tools to make storage containers, climb, lift and move 25 pounds or more with mechanical assistance
