In the past, some museums also included the text portion of the IMLS General Operating Support grant because it showed how mission gets translated into programs.  I’m sure every museum has an equivalent grant application text they could include.

Our packet for new board members includes:

Table of contents and tabs

Mission

History

Board contact list

Committee list

Staff Contact list

Strategic Plan

Budget

Copy of IRS letter, State Charitable Org. cert., and D&O Insurance policy

A nice catalog from a past exhibit

Recent good press

A general brochure

I'm sure there's more stuff we could include, especially if we were a larger institution.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Board orientation materials

Hello all:  I am in the position this year of welcoming 8 totally new board members.  They’ve just been elected, and I want to get them in for orientation as soon as possible.

I’d love some ideas on what kind of material to include in their packet, as well as topics I should cover when we talk.  Many have non-profit board experience, but few have sat on the boards of museums before.

I know that you all can help me.

Claudia
