This is a job announcement for the following position which is open
immediately at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art:

Collections Management Technician

Summary-

Responsible for the general collections management of art storage control,
management and reorganization; supply and equipment budgeting and
procurement; monitoring of unsafe conditions in art storage areas; and
tracking art object movement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following>Other duties may
be assigned-

Houses and rehouses artworks in storage; consolidates and/or reorganizes art
storerooms.

Performs various tasks related to storerooms on a regular or as needed basis
(e.g. checks on daily basis for violations, intrusions, pests, leaks,
hazards, object and/or safety disorganization; ensures that the storerooms
have "earthquake mitigation" methods; may frame/unframed or mount artworks
as needed.

Handles the relocation of individual objects or whole collections

Carefully transports artwork from exhibit or work areas to storerooms.

Orders and stores supplies and materials, as needed.

Attend meetings as directed and perform special projects as assigned.

Experience and Requirements

This position requires two to four years involving several of the following:
museum collection management; art preparation, handling and installation;
museum registration, conservation or carpentry.  BA in Art, Art History,
Museum Studies, History, Anthropology, Design

Specialized technical knowledge is needed for creating safe standards for
housing or rehousing artworks; design ability for existing or new storage
areas; able to lift or move heavy objects; climb, stoop, kneel, crouch with
ease.

Demonstrate ability to organize, prioritize and handle tasks efficiently and
in a timely manner.

Good working knowledge of computer database systems; alternate knowledge of
methods of tracking artworks a plus ( e.g. barcodes, RFID)
