Phones and electricity appear to be non-existence, but if anyone has heard or read about the museums, galleries, etc. of the area, please post to the list. Houston hotels are packed with people from the area that evacuated before the storm. The pictures this morning from the flooding in New Orleans and the destruction all over Mississippi are dismal. In addition to dealing with the disaster recovery, most of the nonprofit cultural organizations in that area are going to be significantly affected by the economic conditions that will likely prevail in the area for a while. As philanthropy shifts its focus to emergency relief and basic needs, what will happen to the cultural institutions? What can we, cultural workers, do to help?
