There is one institution in the state that changed its actual name 2x within about 15 years to reflect large donations.  So, I guess if someone gives enough then even your name is for sale more than once.

Rae –

AIM HIGH!

If your institution is resolved to name galleries, which is a one-time procedure, then make it count. Many on this list might argue against naming galleries at all, but I would not presume to understand your financial goals, needs or the wishes of your board and community.

I would research other institutions in your community, hospital wings, public and private schools, etc., to see what, if any, donations they have received before naming a wing or the new school library after the donor. That should help you judge what is feasible in your neighborhood.

Hope that this helps. (In a former life, I was in development).

Good luck!

Subject: Naming Opportunities

Good afternoon.

We are in the process of establishing naming opportunities for several of our existing galleries, however, we're not sure how to determine the "investment cost" for each area.  I'm counting on your comments and suggestions, so please ~ help?

Thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge.  Rae Weimer
