Are you starting a new Tribal Museum / Library?

Are you CLUELESS about where to start or how to move your project forward?

Are you overwhelmed by your big project?

Do you long for help from those who've been there?

Do you know who to call for help?

If you answered yes to more than 1 of the above questions, you need to attend MPMA’s Pre-Conference Workshop:  Starting a New Tribal Museum or Library? Keys to Successful Planning, Implementation, and Sustainability

Conducted by some of the BEST museum planning folks who also know about tribal issues.

So, hurry and register.   Already registered?  You can still add this workshop.

The buzz these days is with tribal museums. And there are dozens of tribal museums, cultural centers, and libraries being built on Native American reservations throughout the MPMA region. Because of gaming, the social demands on the reservation, the need for cultural preservation, and competition for tourism, it is difficult to know how to establish viable educational institutions. The initiations of these new institutions in tribal communities are a necessity, but how do Native American tribes begin, maintain, and ensure that programs stay alive on a long term basis? This workshop will be an essential learning and developmental tool to assist participants in developing and implementing a mission statement and community needs assessment, initiating a draft collection policy, creating opportunities for fundraising, and providing network opportunities with other tribal communities building new tribal museums and libraries.

Featured topics:

Basics about big development projects

Tools for creating viable institutions

How-tos of working within Tribal policies

Creating a mission statement and why that is important

Factors to consider to make your museum a fit in your community

Fundraising tips

Creating a collections policy

Reference material will be provided

Networking lines that will REALLY help you
