Elizabeth Moore July 27, 2005 Public Relations & Marketing Manager (Role Title: Public Relations & Marketing Specialist III) Salary Range: Pay Band 4 Location: Martinsville, VA Position #00043 The Virginia Museum of Natural History is seeking an outstanding Public Relations and Marketing professional to promote all the current activities of the Museum and raise significant new awareness of the Museum in a larger market as we prepare for our move to a new facility in late 2006. This person will develop and implement public relations, marketing and advertising plans to increase attendance, visibility and revenue by promoting educational programs, exhibits, events, membership and the accomplishments of the Museum, as well as develop and implement a major campaign to launch the new Museum. The duties include: all aspects of public relations - writing press releases, developing and maintaining media relations, community outreach, and acting as spokesperson for the Museum as appropriate. Write and edit newsletter, develop advertising, all collateral and identity materials and work with graphics professional to produce the final product. Oversee marketing and communications budgets. Develop range of partnerships in support of tourism, create and implement special promotions to increase attendance and awareness. Work collaboratively with the Special Events Manager to develop sponsorships for exhibits and events. The position reports to the Director of Planning and External Affairs. The successful candidate will: have 3-5 years of marketing and communications experience preferably in nonprofit cultural organizations; have excellent written and verbal communication, time management and organizational skills; have the ability to think strategically as well as entrepreneurially; be able to make well-educated decisions about using limited resources; the ability to work on many projects simultaneously and to meet frequent deadlines. He or she needs to understand the intertwined roles of development and marketing in nonprofit organizations as well as have a working knowledge of nonprofits, particularly cultural organizations. Budget experience (both in revenue projections as well as expenses). Bachelor's degree, preferably in marketing, communications or related field. Knowledge of MS Office, and Adobe required. Corel Draw useful.
