There is a show (cartoon sitcom) called Daria, which orginated on MTV years ago but is now shown on NOG. Daria's bestfriend Jane is an artist. There are constant images of art, issues about art, or some sort of art class/contest or museum/gallery integrated into the show. Jane is portrayed as a dark yet upbeat person to balance out her dry cynical bestfriend Daria. The session was great! Jennifer Headley ________________________________ From: Museum discussion list [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Amber S. Jasper Johns is a guest voice, and there is a virtual art survey course in one of Homer's nightmares. No one pokes fun at the art world with more humor or accuracy. I always liked that Ross from Friends worked at a museum. Our jobs are so sexy!! Performance art always seems to be good sitcom fodder and has made an episode of Friends. And Murphy Brown's artist friend - did he ever take a bath? I seem to remember an artist episode of Gilligan's Island, but that was a long time ago - some guy with a beard and a beret? Cheers didn't have much art except Diane's constant highbrow banter. And MASH didn't really have much of an opportunity to explore art, but Col Potter painted for a while, and he made an awful painting of Klinger. Yes, sign me up for this conversation... r ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joyce Cheney" <[log in to unmask]> To: <[log in to unmask]> Sent: Thursday, June 30, 2005 8:25 AM Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Sitcoms and art and museums > While reviewing art in sitcoms, (what about Joey's big dog sculpture in > Friends?), let's also note museums in sitcoms (Ross from Friends working as > a museum paleontologist).
