Position Title:                         Exhibits Manager

Reporting Department:          Programs Department

Reporting Supervisor:            Vice President/Director of Programs

Status:                                     Exempt - Full Time

Grade:                                     6

 

PURPOSE:

Will manage and coordinate all phases of exhibit planning, design, production, travel and installation. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a bachelor’s degree in design, museum studies or related field. 3 to 5 years experience in exhibit production and project management is required. Knowledge of design software such as Adobe PhotoShop, InDesign and Illustrator is preferred. In order to lead and direct staff, one must have a high degree of skills in planning, management and organization. Must be able to communicate ideas effectively both verbally and visually.  Knowledge and experience in the proper handling of museum collections preferred. Must be able to manage and meet deadlines.  Must be very dependable and flexible with an attention to detail.  Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds, be raised to heights up to 30 ft and operate basic tools. A valid driver’s license is required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Management 50%

·        Direct, manage and evaluate the woodshop staff.

·        Contract negotiations and budgeting for all exhibits.

·        Manage exhibit calendars

·        Project manage development of in-house exhibits

·        Coordinate rented and outbound traveling exhibit logistics (shipment, unpacking, floor plans, installation, labor, etc.).

·        Manage all exhibit spaces and maintenance thereof.

·        Manage Minnetrista Theater (programming, technology and maintenance)

Development and Production:  30%

·        Design temporary exhibits and exhibit graphics.

·        Design and produce exhibit labels and other exhibit components

·        Coordinate production with Collections, Facilities, Woodshop and vendors.

·        Purchase exhibit supplies

·        Produce audio and video components for theater and exhibits

Installation: 20%

·        Work with the Wood Shop/ Exhibit staff and volunteers on physical installation.

·        Work with the Collections staff on the installation of artifacts.

·        Control lighting in exhibit spaces.

Perform all other duties required.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work setting is indoors, but requires flexibility in hours and may require working in a hazardous environment.  Work involves operation of tools, trucks, ladders and lifts.
